I keep saying the last couple of days have been a roller coaster with all the messages and emails and such. I wanted to share this one

This is an email I received today from a concerned person:

.."I am a dog lover but I'm not sure you are doing pit bulls or the general public any favors by saying that "pit bulls" are not aggressive .. the breed has been specifically bred for a purpose , likewise with most breeds ..whether it's for hunting, guarding, retrieving etc. ..i'e retrievers love to swim and love carrying an object in their mouth , beagles love to hunt , malamutes/sibes love to work/pull etc. ...anyway , please review this link

This was my response...:

thank you for the email. While I appreciate your sentiment, you need to look at more reputable sources than that website you're quoting.
It is not accurate, incorrectly quotes source material and when they cannot get their source material to agree with what they are saying, they just make it up.

I encourage you to read more accurate, more scientific and more quality literature on the subject.

Check out what the American veterinary medical association has to say on the subject of dog bite statistics.

The American Humane Society and the American SPCA has done extensive research on both pit bull aggression, dog bites and breed specific legislation. The research has been peer reviewed, and published in scientific journals.

Check out what Dr. Ian Dunbar, a Ph.D. in animal psychology and biochemistry, a veterinarian, a dog trainer and behaviorist and the father of modern day dog training has to say about the breed. He has a wealth of books also published.

I can continue but these are just a few of the myriad of actual reputable sources that can be quoted which do not support your conclusions.

I have also never said pit bulls are not aggressive FYI. What I have said is that they are like any other dog out there, no better, no worse.

Again thank you for getting in touch with me with your concern.

Check out the links in this post that I wrote for some of the above information in which I am referring. It will get you started and hopefully you can open your mind on the subject

Ken

It is this kind of misinformation that needs to be discussed

It gets tiring hearing "pit bulls are aggressive and that is a fact" or "pit bulls have an aggressive gene and that is well documented"

It does not matter how much you say it, these things are not facts. It is made up pseudo science that has been accepted by too many people. It is sad.

Take the time to read through the post done by the local SPCA today where they talk about pit bulls, and bsl.

It reflects what I have been saying. Check out the source material used. Share the source material when confronting ignorance and maybe just maybe, good discussion can happen.
