"Jake is an older lab-mix (around 9 years old) whose previous owner passed away. He has been at TopsailStar for around 2 months now and has seen all the friends he has made graduate and move on. You would never think this fun-loving boy was 9, he has all the energy of a younger dog and loves to walk, play and do obedience. He has excelled in classes, going from pulling and reacting to any dog in the room, to having a great loose-leash heel and allowing other dogs to interact with him. Continued socialisation is a must for Jake, he has come so far in a short time in getting him adjusted to dogs but would thrive in a household (either foster or adoptive) where the new owners had the time to get him out amongst other dogs. Jake has no problems with people – he dies for your attention whether he knows you or not (if he does know you, he likes to throw in an extra hug and a lick). Whoever said “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” never met this sweet boy! It breaks my heart every time I have to put him back in the kennel, this boy needs a home to enjoy the later years of his life.
